Season Roundup
Our 2017 season was completed yesterday with an away match against Rasharkin. Although we won the match which turned out to be a tougher test than we expected , we suffered some collateral damage with a nasty injury to Conor Mc Hugh. The match was played in near perfect conditions although the sod was quite heavy. As in our previous match against Creggan we started brightly with some great scores taken from distance, before Conleth flicked an incoming effort to the roof of the net to give us a bit of breathing space. Our collective feet were then taken off the gas and Rasharkin came roaring back with a couple of goals to leave only three in it at the break. Second half was a tougher test from the outset and we continued to play well enough to prove that we should not be battling relegation for the second year on the trot. We finished strongly and despite a nasty accidental injury to smiley we came away with a six point win.

Seemingly our Division 3 status now lies out of our hands. Rules dictate that teams finishing level on points will be placed according to the head to head results between the two teams. Therefore we now need Na Magha to overturn Lamh Dearg  for us to secure eighth place in the league.

It has been another season of " oh so near ....yet oh so far" . A one point loss to Gort na Mona in the championship was not a reflection on the way the game went. We dominated for long periods and if only we had been a little more accurate in our scoring efforts could have ( and should have)  made it through to the Junior Final. Our league position again does not do us justice. We had some great victories along the way but also some disappointing results, and our mid league position is probably where we are at.
There has been some turmoil within the club this year with changes in management structure as well as changes in committee structure. This is not the place to pay tribute to those who have been part of helping the club in recent times but I am sure suitable tributes will be forthcoming in time.

As the season draws to a close now ,it is time for us to look forward to the upcoming Gala Ball and celebrate what this club means to the people of Cushendun. We look forward with optimism and promise to next season, we have fine set of minors coming through some of whom will be playing in their second County final in three years next week and we look forward to our support coming out to shout for them.

Finally we hope to hold the AGM shortly after the Gala Ball, so if you know of anyone willing to take up a position within the club, it is time to start thinking about putting names forward.
